Sink installation in San Jose for kitchens, bathrooms and garages

A new kitchen sink with new counters, an undermount upgrade, a bathroom vanity sink, or a deep utility sink for the garage. Setting the sink is only part of the job; the drain, the trap height and the supply connections decide whether it works and stays dry.

Quick answer

Sink installation in San Jose covers setting the sink, fitting the strainer or drain, reworking the trap to the new outlet height, and connecting supply lines with working shutoffs. Undermount sinks are mounted to the counter before or during countertop installation, so the timing is planned with the fabricator.

The job

What decides whether a new sink drains well

A new sink changes the drain: a deeper bowl lowers the outlet, a double bowl needs a continuous waste, and a disposal changes the trap height again. If the wall drain sits higher than the new outlet, the sink drains slowly or holds water in the trap arm. We check the heights before the sink is ordered, so the fix is a fitting, not a surprise.

Faucets are covered under faucet installation, and disposals under garbage disposal repair and installation.

Kitchen sink replacement

Replacing a kitchen sink means disconnecting the faucet, disposal and drain, lifting out the old sink, and setting the new one with fresh sealant and clips. We rebuild the drain to the new bowl layout, with a continuous waste for double bowls and the dishwasher connection moved to the right tailpiece or the disposal. The trap is reset to the new height, and every joint is tested with a full basin draining at once, which is the test that shows up slow or leaking connections.

Undermount sink

An undermount sink hangs from the underside of a stone or solid-surface counter, held by clips or epoxy and sealed at the rim. The timing matters: some fabricators mount the sink in their shop, others on site when the counter goes in. We coordinate with the fabricator on the cutout template and faucet holes, then connect the drain, disposal and supply once the counter is set and the sealant has cured. Kohler and other makers publish templates we pass to the fabricator.

Bathroom vanity sink

Vanity sinks come as drop-in bowls, undermounts, vessel sinks that sit on top of the counter, and integrated tops. Each puts the drain at a different height, and vessel sinks need a taller faucet or a wall-mounted one. We install the sink and its pop-up or grid drain, reset the trap to the new outlet, and connect new stops and supply lines. When the vanity itself is new, we check that the drain and supply stubs in the wall line up with its back panel before it goes in.

Utility sink in the garage

A deep utility sink in the garage or laundry is useful for everything from paint brushes to muddy boots. It needs hot and cold supply, a drain tied into the building drain with a proper trap and vent, and ideally a spot near the existing laundry plumbing. Where the washer standpipe is close by, the sink can often share that drain line. We set a freestanding or cabinet-mounted tub, fit a faucet with a sprayer if you want one, and test the drain under full flow.

Local context

How the counter decides the sink in San Jose kitchens

Sinks in San Jose sit on everything from original tile counters in older houses to stone counters in recent remodels, and the counter decides the install. Tile and laminate take drop-in sinks easily; stone usually means an undermount set with the fabricator. When a sink is being replaced without new counters, we measure the existing cutout first, because the new sink has to cover the old opening exactly and seal against it.
